Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is a unique holiday experience that everyone can enjoy.

It is perfect for families and children.

Originally a penal settlement, the island has a different character than the mainland and must be experienced as part of any WA holiday.

Once there, you can access turquoise waters and secluded bays all over the island.

Enjoy the quokkas โ€“ a small native marsupial that is very friendly and loves to take a selfie with you.

Getting There

Most people will catch the regular ferry services to visit Rottnest, which leaves regularly from Perth, Fremantle or Hillarys Boat Harbour.

Book the ferry here.

We recommend taking the longer route from the centre of Perth to include a fabulous river cruise along the Swan as you meander to the ocean.

It is possible to fly into the island’s very windy airstrip as well, but this will not be as cost-effective as jumping on the boat!

Things to do

Exploring Rottnest is one of the great joys of a West Australian holiday. There are plenty of options to do something individually or in a broader group.

Hire a bike in a package along with your ferry ticket or on the island.

Riding around the island will give you plenty of scope to explore deserted beaches and glorious bays.

Beware of the stiff winds at certain times of the day!
Lunch or early dinner at the Rottnest pub is a must after a hard day’s sightseeing.
