Perth & Surrounds

location-img

Perth's exceptional position as the most isolated city in the world has created a unique culture that is nowhere else like it.

The capital and largest city in Western Australia, it is vibrant and cosmopolitan.

Home to over two million people snaking around the beautiful Swan River, Perth is ringed by golden sandy beaches and the hills.

You can spend a day or a month in Perth and never get bored.

Home to immigrants from all over the world, each wave has brought new food and new culture and added to Perth's magnetic energy.

Getting There

Flying is the popular way to get to Perth, and most tourists will arrive by plane at Perth International Airport.

The city is directly connected to Asia, the Middle East, New Zealand, Africa and Europe.

Those travelling from the Americas must transit through Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

You can drive to Perth from other parts of Australia, and it is a fascinating journey, but it is only for those with plenty of time.

Driving is a magnificent way to explore untouched parts of Western Australia and see things that would be impossible to view any other way.

People can also arrive in Perth on the Indian-Pacific train line.

The train connects Perth to Sydney and Adelaide.

From Sydney, the journey takes four days and three nights.

This rail journey is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and for those with the time, it is a unique way to arrive in Perth.

Cruise ships also dock in Perth โ€“ well, Fremantle, to be precise โ€“ and this is another way to enter the West Australian capital.

Accommodation Options

Accommodation options range from a winner of the best hotel in Australia to backpacker’s hostels, whole homes and caravan parks.

The last few years have seen the Perth hotel scene explode with new options such as the Ritz-Carlton and the QT, forcing well-established options such as the Hilton and the Hyatt to lift their game with significant refurbishments.

Mid-priced options such as the West Perth Holiday Inn and The Tribe have also significantly lifted hotel options at a lower price point.

Our Favourites

Splurge on Como The Treasury โ€“ Conde Nast voted this the second-best hotel in the world in 2016 and is regularly voted the best hotel in the country. Not cheap, but if you want the best accommodation option in Perth โ€“ this is it. The hotel has excellent dining options such as Wildflower, Long Chim and Post.

The nearby Westin hotel is more reasonably priced and represents excellent value. It is modern, has wonderful beds and is a true five-star option.

Crown Towers is the best of the three hotel options at the Burswood casino and is a destination beyond the delights of the casino floor. You can combine a weekend stay with dinner at one of the excellent Burswood restaurants such as Rockpool, Nobu, Bistro Guillaume or Silks.
