It has a permanent population of almost 14,00 people which can double during the dry (peak tourist) season. It is the home of the Indigenous Yawuru people who have lived here for over 50,000 years. Broome has a proud tradition of migrant assimilation which started with the pearling industry which was carried out mostly by Asian migrant workers who fished the abundant pearl beds and with many staying on to make Broome their home.
Broome’s tropical climate and laid back lifestyle continues to draw tourists and family holidaymakers from not only Australia but all over the world. Famous Cable Beach is located just a ten to twenty minute drive (depending on your beach destination). Step back into history at the iconic “frontier style” Roebuck Bay Hotel where cold beer and music that rocks is always on tap. Broome is a major hotspot for all types of on and offshore fishing whether it is a marlin, sailfish, a barramundi taken from a tidal creek or just a family fish from the Broome jetty where amazing catches still happen.
